As per (version 6) of the Rule book
"These are not hard and fast rulings , but hopefully helpful examples to give a jumping-off point for your own cool Trump Cards!" (page 21)
The Trump Card Edge is purposefully vague, which I understand is a feature not a bug. I understand this, but it means that I pretty much have to make up what I think Trump Cards should do. Which is fun, but I also worry about making them Over Powered, or Under Powered.
So lets discuss possible trump cards, how to make them interesting, and how to try and balance them. I'll start.
Battle Bond Or as the rule book says, "whatever the hell Ash-Greninja has going on." The anime apparently calls this "Bond Phenomenon"

Now, the Anime has a different version then what the video game does. I'm going to ignore the video game (I'll admit, I never played Sun & Moon) and focus on the Anime which I think is legit cool.
The Trainer and the Pokémon form a strong bond which makes the Pokemon Stronger, but it comes with some side effects.
"This form comes with a side-effect: whenever Greninja takes damage, the pain is shared with Ash in the same location where Greninja was hurt. Ash is also shown to be able to see from Greninja's point of view and will occasionally mimic Greninja's movements. Ash describes it as feeling like he "became" Greninja. It is revealed by Clemont's device that Ash and Greninja share exactly the same heartbeat while Greninja is in the form and that the form can be accessed when Ash and Greninja's feelings synchronize. If the form is pushed too hard, it is possible for Ash to pass out from the resulting exhaustion and pain."
So, how can we mimic this while making it powerful, COOL, but still having a cost? This is what I've come up with.
1) When the Trump Card is activated, the Pokemon gets restated as a "PC Pokemon". So a little similar to how I imagine Mega-Evolution working, where you would need 1 character sheet for the "normal" Pokemon and another character sheet for the transformed Pokemon.
2) As a PC Pokemon, their Attributes would be determined by the Trainer. So if the Trainer's Fitness is a d6, the PC Pokemon would have a Strength of d6.
3) As a PC Pokemon, they use the Stagger Injury Rules.
4) As a PC Pokemon, they get 6 Move Slots, Edges & Hinderances.
5) By being Bonded with the Trainer they share pain; in other words they SHARE WOUNDS! When the Pokemon takes a wound, the Trainer takes a Wound as well.
Number 5 is the big cost for this. Because if the Pokemon were to faint, then the Trainer would faint. This means that while Battle Bond is powerful, it is a weapon of last resort. Because if the Pokemon Faints, then the Trainer Faints. If the Trainer faints they are unable to battle and thus lose the match.
Is this overpowered, underpowered, or what?
